Date: 2024-12-16 05:23 am (UTC)I don't try to save everything and I am bad at computers, but I save as much as I can, some on my own computer, some on archive sites. And I've lined my house with books. I had over 10,000 books last we counted and that was years ago.

Do you data hoard? If so, what do you hoard?
I'm a dragon, of course I hoard. In this life, mostly I hoard books. I've lined my house with books. At last count we had over 10,000 and that was years ago.
I also hoard some electronic stuff. Fanfic. Some hard-to-find articles. Books in PDF format on any topic that catches my fancy.
I save a lot of online stuff in archives too. Presently I use Wayback, Ghost, and Archive.Today. Each is good at different things, none does everything, and none is reliable. But it's better than nothing. Linkrot is abominable.
Why do you data hoard
Because if I don't, references I need will disappear. I have literally had things disappear when I wrote something one day and it got sponsored and posted the next day. >_< And of course, that's about to get monumentally worse in January as various individuals have stated their plans to destroy government websites and databases. So if you use any of that, back up whatever you can, while you still can.
Also, Cohost will disappear at the end of December, so if you have anything on there, back it up too.
Yeah. That's why.
Anything else?
I do a Poetry Fishbowl in my blog on the first Tuesday of each month. Everyone's welcome to drop by and give me prompts on the current theme. I like writing stuff based on cool articles that somebody found and linked for me, so if you like hoarding articles about odd and uncommon information, go for it. One poem gets posted free as thanks for the prompts, and the rest get thumbnail descriptions in case anyone wants to sponsor them. Next up will be Tuesday, January 7 with a theme of "short forms." Throw me a link to any poetic form that's short-ish and I'll take a stab at it.
If anyone hoards poetry, be aware that once it gets sponsored and posted, it's free for everyone to read but not to reprint. You can save copies for private viewing. Backchannel copies to prompters are for private viewing only, until it gets sponsored. But if you sponsor or cosponsor a piece, you get nonexclusive reprint rights so you can repost it.
